ASI Seeks Control Of Sambhal Mosque, Files Court Response

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has requested control and management of the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal, a Mughal-era heritage site, in response to a court-ordered survey. ASI’s lawyer highlighted resistance from the mosque’s management and locals and pointed to a 2018 incident when unauthorized steel railings were installed. The mosque has been protected by ASI since 1920.
