The Government of India has formed a panel to investigate the allegations against trainee IAS officer Puja Khedkar. The panel will look into claims that Khedkar misused benefits under the physical disabilities category and the OBC quota to secure her IAS position.
Khedkar, a 2023 batch IAS officer, has faced accusations of entitled behavior and misuse of power during her previous posting in Pune. She allegedly demanded special privileges such as a separate office, official car, and accommodation before joining as an assistant collector, despite not being entitled to such perks as a trainee officer.
Khedkar also drew controversy for using a private Audi car with a red beacon and a “Government of Maharashtra” sticker, which are typically reserved for senior officials. This led to her transfer from Pune to Washim district.
Furthermore, questions have been raised about Khedkar’s eligibility under the OBC category, as her father’s election affidavit showed significant assets and income, potentially exceeding the non-creamy layer criteria. There are also allegations that she claimed multiple disabilities to secure special accommodations during the UPSC exam.
The government has taken this step to ensure a fair and impartial investigation into the matter, which has drawn significant attention and calls for a comprehensive probe.
