The Centre has proposed bringing Chandigarh under the category of Union Territories where the President can directly issue orders and laws. For this, a bill to amend Article 131 of the Constitution will be introduced in this winter session of Parliament. At present, Chandigarh remains under the administrative supervision of the Governor of Punjab.
