Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate, dedicate, and lay the foundation stones for projects totaling more than Rs 29,400 crore during his upcoming visit to Mumbai. The event, scheduled at the NESCO Exhibition Centre in Goregaon, will mark significant infrastructure developments across various sectors.
Among the key projects, PM Modi will lay the foundation stones for the Thane-Borivali Tunnel Project and the Goregaon Mulund Link Road, both featuring twin tunnels aimed at enhancing connectivity and reducing travel times within Mumbai and its metropolitan region. The Thane-Borivali Tunnel Project, costing Rs 16,600 crore, will create a direct link between Borivali on the Western Express Highway and Thane’s Ghodbunder Road, cutting travel distance by 12 kilometers and saving an hour in travel time. Similarly, the Rs 6,300 crore Goregaon Mulund Link Road project will connect the Western Express Highway at Goregaon to the Eastern Express Highway at Mulund, drastically reducing travel time from 75 minutes to just 25 minutes.
Additionally, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Central Railway’s Kalyan Yard remodelling project, aimed at segregating suburban and long-distance train traffic to enhance operational efficiency and punctuality. The Gati Shakti MultiModal Cargo Terminal at Turbhe in Navi Mumbai, another foundation stone laying ceremony, aims to boost capacity for handling cement and other commodities, thereby generating employment opportunities.
During the visit, the PM will also dedicate new platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and extended platforms 10 and 11 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. These developments are expected to increase train accommodation capacity and facilitate the running of longer 24-coach trains, thereby enhancing overall rail connectivity and ridership. Furthermore, PM Modi will launch the ‘Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana’, a scheme with an outlay of Rs 5,600 crore aimed at youth skill development. He will also inaugurate the Indian Newspaper Society (INS) Secretariat at Bandra Kurla Complex, known as the INS Towers. This visit underscores the government’s commitment to bolstering infrastructure, enhancing connectivity, and fostering economic growth in Mumbai and the surrounding metropolitan region through transformative projects across various sectors.
