A concerning revelation from the Caribbean islands suggests that Cricket West Indies has been the target of a “terror threat” concerning the major tournament, which is scheduled to take place little over a month before the United States and the West Indies host the T20 World Cup 2024. Reportedly, the north of Pakistan posed a security danger for the international cricket tournament, which prompted the cricket association to promptly implement more stringent security protocols. According to Jonny Graves, CEO of Cricket West Indies, “we work closely with authorities in the host countries and cities and continually monitor and evaluate the global landscape to ensure appropriate plans are in place to mitigate any risks identified to our event.” This statement was made on Sunday.
According to the report, there is a growing threat to security from the pro-Islamic state. It highlights that pro-Islamic State (IS) media sources have been promoting violence against sporting events. One such campaign included video messages from the IS-K branch in Afghanistan and Pakistan that highlighted attacks in various countries and encouraged supporters to join the fight in their home countries. But the CEO of CWI has reassured everyone attending the event that security is the board’s first priority. The threat was received by the Pro-Islamic State (Daesh) through the media organization “Nashir Pakistan,” a propaganda channel linked to the Islamic State group, as reported by the Daily Express. This year, the Twenty20 World Cup will be contested in the US and the West Indies. The final will take place on June 29. The opening match will take place on June 1.
