Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu said that the Land Titling Act is risky, and added that it leads to theft of people’s property. “As promised during the election, we decided to repeal the law,” he said. A debate was held in the Legislature on the bill to repeal the Land Titles Act. The discussion was started by Minister Anagani Sathya Prasad.
Sathya Prasad said that the bill is aimed to take away people’s rights. This act may lead to more land disputes, he said. He questioned how the poor farmers can approach the High Court directly if they face problems. Concerned about how people can afford to hire expensive lawyers for petty disputes.
After a while, Chandrababu Naidu defined the Land Titling Act as an unsafe law. He slammed the previous government for introducing this law without proper consideration, and said many problems were faced by poor people due to the law. He also recalled about how lawyers protested against this law and created public awareness.
The land is an inherited wealth passed down from generation to generation, he said. Adding that printing Pattadar passbooks with government seals has become a custom, he questioned whether printing pattadar passbooks with the Chief Minister’s photo is right? He also mentioned the recent land survey, which revealed that land disputes have increased in the state.
