Violence against women costs India up to Rs 4.6 lakh crore annually, or 1.6% of GDP, by reducing workforce participation. Despite 4.4 lakh registered cases, NFHS data shows 56 million married women experience spousal violence. Government spending on the issue is under Rs 800 crore, less than 0.5% of the economic loss. Addressing this is vital for India's development goals.
