Ladakh is set to expand its grassroots governance as elected autonomous hill councils are proposed for 5 new districts. Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has approved the notification extending LAHDCs to Sham, Nubra, Zanskar, Drass and Changthang, alongside Leh and Kargil. Polls will be held later under the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Councils Act, 1997.
