The Centre has tightened social media rules by reducing the time to remove sensitive content from 24 hours to two hours. Platforms must also remove unlawful content within three hours and resolve user complaints within 36 hours. The revised IT Rules aim to curb deepfakes, AI-generated misinformation and other harmful online content.
