The Union Cabinet approved a Rs 25 per quintal hike in wheat MSP for 2027-28, raising it to Rs 2,610 per quintal from Rs 2,585. Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said wheat's production cost is Rs 1,264 per quintal, so MSP is more than double that. MSPs for barley, gram, masur, mustard and safflower were also raised. Farmers' total payout is estimated at Rs 90,962 crore.
