Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said super oil tanker EL GAIA exploded and caught fire after hitting naval mines while attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz through a prohibited route. The IRGC said efforts to control the blaze failed, engulfing the vessel. It reiterated that the strategic strait remains closed and under Iranian naval control.
