India is exploring linking its digital rupee with the CBDCs of BRICS partners to make cross-border payments faster and cheaper. Talks with Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam are at an advanced stage. The push follows the New Delhi BRICS declaration backing payment interoperability and local-currency trade. The digital rupee remains in its pilot phase.
