Sugar prices have risenby Rs 7.52 per kg over the past month, reaching Rs 55.70 now. The government blamed lower production, crop damage, festive demand, global supply concerns, speculation and hoarding. India’s sugar output is estimated at 306 LMT. The government said ethanol production is not the main reason for the price rise.
