Elderly Couple Seeks Euthanasia Over "Unbearable" Harassment

An elderly couple in Surat, Shyam and Madhu Gehlot, sought euthanasia permission, alleging financial harassment by civic authorities after their 11 shops were sealed. They lost nine family members in a 2016 accident and live alone. The Surat Municipal Corporation said documents are needed to regularise the properties under the GRUDA Act. Euthanasia is restricted in India.
