At least eight people, including seven women, have died after being swept away by strong river currents in Uttara Kannada’s Thatte Hakkalu river. The victims were mussel collectors caught suddenly in fast-flowing water. Rescue teams launched a search operation, while authorities confirmed multiple fatalities and others remain missing.
