Indian mathematician Mahesh Ramesh Kakde of IISc Bengaluru has won the 2026 Ramanujan Prize for his important work in algebraic number theory. He has also made major contributions to arithmetic geometry and Iwasawa theory. His research on the Gross-Stark and Brumer-Stark conjectures has gained global recognition and connects with Hilbert’s famous 12th Problem.
