Tamil Nadu CM C Joseph Vijay will launch the one-gram gold ring scheme for newborns in Madurai on September 28. Babies born in government hospitals from June 22, 2026, are eligible. The state procured 1.28 lakh rings for phase one. Rings have serial numbers and tamper-proof packaging. Distribution starts September 28 through 107 hubs, covering 100 babies daily.
