The Ministry of Home Affairs declared Manipur, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh as "disturbed areas" under AFSPA for six months due to violence. Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that over 80 percent of the Northeast is currently free from AFSPA. He added that the law could be completely removed from almost the entire region next year.
