Govt To Ensure Merchants Absorb UPI MDR, Not Consumers

The government will monitor UPI MDR implementation to ensure merchants absorb the 0.4% charge and don't pass it to consumers. From October 15, MDR applies to person-to-merchant UPI payments above Rs 2,000. Essential services pay Rs 5 per transaction. Small merchants earning up to Rs 1 lakh monthly remain exempt. Officials denied US pressure or GST rumours.
