September 17 marks a significant day in the history of Hyderabad. On Sept 13, 1948, the Govt of India launched 'Operation Polo', a military action against the Hyderabad State. After five days of fighting, Nizam's forces surrendered on Sept 17, leading to Hyderabad's integration into India. The operation ended the Nizam's rule and Razakar activities in HYD.
