A BBC probe found six Gujarat-based unrecognised political parties received ₹1,700 crore in donations in 2023-24, more than five national parties' combined income (excluding BJP). Most offices were shut, office-bearers missing. These parties fielded only 15 candidates. The CBDT flagged such entities as conduits for hawala and bogus refund claims.
