Uttarakhand’s Waqf Board will introduce a new nikahnama allowing registration of only one marriage. Under the state’s UCC rules, a second marriage without legal divorce could lead to legal action. Clerics cannot conduct such marriages. Uttarakhand, the 1st Indian state to implement UCC in January 2025, is also planning mandatory marriage registration.
