USGS: Glacier Collapse Behind Nepal’s Catastrophic Flood

A catastrophic flash flood in Nepal was caused by a glacial collapse, not an earthquake, according to the US Geological Survey. A huge ice-rock avalanche released torrents of water, devastating nearby communities. The disaster killed more than 150 people and left hundreds missing, highlighting the growing dangers posed by unstable Himalayan glaciers.
