Surayya Tyabji, a 28-year-old artist from Hyderabad, and her ICS officer husband Badruddin designed India's national flag in July 1947. They replaced the Congress charkha with Ashoka's 24-spoked wheel in navy blue, solving practical challenges of printing on Khadi. Surayya also designed the Lion Emblem. Their Hyderabad connection remains a lesser-known story.
