In a 1981-82 Ranji Trophy game, Sunil Gavaskar batted left-handed to counter Karnataka's left-arm spinner Raghuram Bhat, who was exploiting a rough patch. Batting left meant the ball turned into his pads, avoiding edges. He switched back for right-arm bowlers, scoring an unbeaten 18 to guide Bombay to a draw and save the match.
