Ladakh First To Begin Caste Census From Aug 17

Ladakh is set to become the first region in India to begin caste enumeration under Census 2027, with the population-counting exercise scheduled to start on August 17 in snow-bound areas. The census will collect caste-wise data through an open-ended response field. The 2nd phase will also gather demographic, marking the first nationwide caste census since 1931.
