7.1-Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Southern Japan

A 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck Kumamoto on Japan's Kyushu island today, prompting a tsunami advisory, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. The quake hit at a depth of 10 km below the sea. Emergency warnings were issued for several prefectures, including Nagasaki, Kagoshima, Fukuoka, Saga, Oita, and Miyazaki, as authorities monitored the situation.
