The Balkampet Yellamma Temple in Hyderabad boasts a history of over 700 years. The self-manifested ('Swayambhu') idol of Goddess Yellamma was discovered while a farmer dug a well. As the idol could not be relocated, worship began at the site. Raja Shivraj Bahadur later built the present temple in 1919, where Ashadha Bonalu are celebrated grandly every year.
