Why Has India Banned Imports Made Using Forced Labour?

The Centre has prohibited the import of goods made wholly or partly through forced labour by updating the Foreign Trade Policy 2023. The bold move empowers the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) to identify such products and recommend action. The new provision also strengthens ethical trade practices and will take effect 30 days after notification.
