The Supreme Court today stayed the Madras High Court's blanket ban on cow and calf slaughter in Tamil Nadu. A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta said the order required correction. The state argued it contradicted the Tamil Nadu Animal Preservation Act, 1958, which permits limited slaughter under certified conditions for unfit animals.
