Launched in India in 2016, the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is now accepted in 10 other countries, including Bhutan, UAE, France, Mauritius, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Qatar, Cambodia and Greece. The UPI is set to expand further, with Malaysia, Maldives, Oman and Japan preparing to roll out full-scale services, extending India's digital payment ecosystem.
