Why Does June Rainfall Matter So Much For Farmers?

June rainfall marks the beginning of the kharif season and plays a key role in agriculture. Early showers replenish soil moisture, fill water bodies and encourage farmers to sow crops such as maize, paddy, ragi, jowar, tur, groundnut, cotton and soybean. Poor rainfall delays sowing, disrupts crop planning and may also even force farmers to abandon cultivation.
