World Bank will phase out lending to China by 2031 under a new partnership framework, reflecting its economic progress. Lending has declined from $2.42 billion in 2017 to $750 million in 2025. The bank said its role is shifting from lender to knowledge partner. China also contributes $1.5 billion to the IDA, making it the fifth-largest donor globally.
