The Supreme Court has ordered the Kerala government to take custody of Raman, the state’s tallest elephant, and move him to a rehabilitation centre. The court said Raman was commercially exploited despite earlier restrictions. Stressing the welfare of animals, the court found the current caretaker guilty of contempt and imposed a fine of Rs 2,000.
