Heavy rains are expected over Tamil Nadu's Western Ghats from today as southwest monsoon conditions strengthen, the weather office said. Nilgiris, Theni, Dindigul, Coimbatore ghats and several other districts may receive heavy to very heavy rain with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds. Chennai recorded 40.4°C, while Nalumukku saw 17 cm rainfall.
